More Spanish News

Well, I did my interview with the Rene at Esperanza Viva today. I don't feel like I did very well but I also know that I am continually learning. It was hard to understand Rene since the connection didn't seem very good. He had to ask a couple of the questions in English because I just couldn't understand them. I think I was able to answer them okay but not as well as I would have liked to. It is hard over the phone though. Facial expressions say a lot about whether the other person understands what you are saying and I get a lot out of hand gestures and facial expressions when someone is talking to me. So, all that to say, I know I need to learn a lot more and I am learning more and more every day. I need to do more listening to native speakers so that I can understand when someone talks to me. So, tonight I was listen and watching Cheaper by the Dozen in Spanish. I also put on some of my Spanish worship CDs. I will keep plugging along and just hope they don't want to send me to Guatemala for language school.

Eres Todopoderoso

Jonathan recently wanted to sing a song that we love from Mexico so I looked it up to hear it again. It is one of our favorite songs we learned after going to Mexico the first time. We taught it to our first team that we led and I thought I would put it here for you. Just click the play button. The words and translation are below. I hope you enjoy it.

Memorizing Scripture

I began Spanish tutoring with a woman from church about two months ago. It has been going well and I enjoy it. It is helping me stay more on track with my Spanish. We'll see just how well next week when we are in Mexico. Two weeks ago, she said that God had laid on her heart to have me memorize a portion of Scripture in Spanish. The section of verses is Matthew 6:9-13, The Lord's Prayer. At first I wasn't too sure but when she shared what I was to memorize, it made perfect sense. Several times recently, God has brought me to The Lord's Prayer not only on my own, but some of our pastors have used it as a reference in their teachings. I have been so pleased that I have actually memorized verses 9 and 10.

Mateo 6:9-13

Padre nuestro que estás en el cielo, santificado sea tu nomber, venga tu reino, hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo. (That is verses 9-10 that I have memorized so far.) Danos hoy nuestro pan cotidiano. Perdónanos nuestras deudas, como también nosotros hemos perdonado a nuestros deudores. Y no nos dejes caer en tentación, sino líbranos del maligno; porque tuyo es el reino, y el poder, y la gloria, por todos los siglos. Amén.

As I study it, I am beginning to understand more how the words fit together and it helps me to understand their meanings.

Spanish Lessons

Today I began Spanish lessons with a lady from our church, Elisa Miller. I really do much better with learning if I have someone giving me things to do and I have a time line to get them done. So, I have a lot of vocabulary to master in the next week and some lessons on adjectives. We will be meeting once a week which should keep me on track for next year's move to Mexico. It will be wonderful to see how much more I understand when we take our short term team down in October. In another three weeks, I begin school with the kids and they will be learning Spanish five days a week in their schooling. Again, it will be great to see how much they know when we go in October. They should be able to communicate more than in the past. I am getting very excited about us all learning Spanish. Please pray that the Lord will open our minds and allow us to remember what we are learning.
